This Week in Year 3
World Book Day
World Book Day was on Thursday this week and was a real chance to celebrate the joy of reading. The children and adults all arrived in school, in costumes inspired by books. There was an amazing array of costumes and everyone got into the spirit of the day! We started the day with an online assembly and quiz which united the Junior, Middle and Senior Departments. We then all enjoyed three sessions of Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) during which we spent 15 minutes reading for pleasure. You could hear a pin drop during these silent sessions – the children read with focus and obvious enjoyment.
The book fayre was a rich source of new reading inspiration and the children needed no encouragement to get stuck into their new books as soon as they returned to the classroom.. Many thanks to the English Department for their excellent organisation.
En safari à Beechwood
This week, year 3 pupils enjoyed going on a French animal safari in and around the school.
They found a variety of “animaux” including “un canard” by the swimming pool, “une tortue” (Mike) in the Science Department, as well as Bruce “un chien” in the Art Department! C’était fantastique!
Forest School
3P was the final class, this week, to go into the woods for Forest School. All three classes started their sessions by looking for the tell-tale signs of spring, as they took an alternative route into the forest to hunt for buds on the trees, for daffodils and for snowdrops.
The children then played a game in which they had to work with a partner who was blindfolded. They had to use only their voices to direct their partner to a tree of their choice and then back again. The partner then removed the blindfold and had to try and guess the tree. A simple and yet tricky game involving trust and good verbal communication. Another wonderful session in the fresh air with Mrs LeBas.
Looking to later in the term, we also have a whole year group session booked, postponed from last term, due to the snow. This session will be on Monday 20 March. We won’t have Christmas music but it will be an excellent opportunity for the whole of the year to come together for a morning of fresh air and laughter.
Thank you!
This has been a busy week for us with in-person Parent Consultations on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Thank you so much for your support with these meetings. It was a pleasure meeting up with you all.
Have a lovely weekend!
