JUNIOR DEPARTMENT NEWS
This week in Reception
In Reception, we have started our new topic ‘Australia’.
Last Friday we were very lucky as our own Australian teacher, Miss Barker, had arranged a Zoom chat for all of us with another teacher called Mrs Bennie who lives in Sydney, Australia.
When we spoke to Mrs Bennie the children were fascinated to look out of her window and see that it was night time in Sydney. Mrs Bennie also told the children it had been a very hot day and no jumpers were needed. Mrs Bennie spoke to the children all about the weather, environment, animals, food and school. The children found it amazing that children in Australia have a packed lunch and eat outside every day.
Reception asked some very interesting questions to extend their knowledge about Australia. For example are there any penguins? The answer was yes, In Tasmania there are fairy penguins. They really enjoyed the educational Aussie Zoom and have been inspired to learn even more about Australia this week!
