Interim Head at Beechwood
Beechwood Park School has appointed Maureen Cussans as Interim Headmistress from January 2023, following the departure of Ed Balfour in December 2022.
Mrs Cussans is an experienced IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Head and, as a Beechwood Park Governor, has served as Chair of the School’s Education Committee. Well known to the Board and staff alike, she brings a wealth of experience of prep school leadership and an already established working knowledge of the School.
Mrs Cussans was Head of Kenton College Preparatory School, Kenya for 15 years, during which time she led the school to outstanding judgements in DfE inspections. With specialisms in staff mentoring and training, Mrs Cussans has also served for six years as Independent Association of Preparatory Schools District Chair and International Representative to IAPS Council, receiving the 2019 Outstanding Service Award by the Association.
Mrs Cussans has worked closely with Mr Balfour as she prepares to take up this interim position, and will liaise with the new permanent Head once appointed.
She said “I am thrilled to be appointed as Interim Head. Beechwood is a leading UK prep school, with a forward-thinking and child-centred ethos, and incredible strengths across academic, pastoral and co-curricular areas. The School is fortunate to be supported by an extremely warm community of staff and parents, who work closely together to ensure the happiness and success of our pupils. I am very much looking forward to getting to know all members of the community better as I transition into this role, and also to working with the new Head once they are appointed”.
Beechwood Chair of Governors, Mark Hammond added ” We are delighted that Maureen will be stepping in as Interim Head as we seek to appoint a permanent replacement to Ed Balfour. Maureen’s extensive experience and educational vision ensure that Beechwood is in very safe hands”
